2022-2025 Volvo XC60, XC90, and XC40 recalled in Australia due to brake fault

The fault could cause a loss of braking performance that would increase the risk of an accident, according to the recall notice, and it can be fixed with a downloadable software update.

Volvo has recalled 518 examples of its 2022-2025 XC60, XC90, and XC40 plug-in hybrid and electric cars, citing a potential software fault with the brakes.

The affected vehicles are stamped 2022 to 2025 models, but may have been sold at a later date.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure says: “Due to a software issue, there is a risk that the vehicle’s braking performance may be temporarily disabled if the car has been coasting downhill for at least one minute and 30 seconds in ‘B’ mode (in the plug-in hybrid cars) or One Pedal Drive (in the pure electric cars)”.

Volvo Car Corporation states that owners of affected vehicles will be contacted and can perform an Over-the-Air (OTA) software update. This will download the updated software to the vehicle to rectify the problem.

If the owner is unable to run an OTA software update, they can take their vehicle to an authorised Volvo dealer to have the firmware installed, free of charge.

Owners can contact Volvo Customer Care at 1300 787 802, owners.australia@volvocars.com or through the brand's website for more information.
