2014 Nissan Navara D22 (4x4) review
Owner Review | 23 Feb 2018
I bought a new 2014 D22 Nissan double cab (you can still buy them new where I come from) after doing about 360 000km on my Mitsubishi Colt (Rodeo) 2.8D. The reason was very simple, I just got married and was thus cash strapped, and staying close to the sea and surrounded by mountainous dunes you cannot be caught without a 4x4. Firstly, I would like to mention that I am not brand loyal, nor am I delusional in thinking the D22 is anywhere close to the best vehicle there is. Somehow though, all of the quirks of the vehicle has some benefits. The very small rear door entry for example is invaluable in tight parking spaces. The door is so narrow that you can open it to its maximum tilt at about 90 degrees to get a child in his seat. Furthermore, the humm of the 4pot (read low noise insulation), soothes toddlers to sleep. The hard plastics are easy to clean when toddlers are playing inside the car while dad is installing a dual battery system, truly whipe and go. The electronics are basic, just install spotlights, leds, solar panels and dual batteries. No fuss with computer struggling with low loads or on the other hand globes that are 10watt more than stock. No software nanny needing to be asked permission to install any accessory. The limited slip diff makes for plenty of fun on our salt covered roads, although the lack of brute torque makes any tail whip very manageable. The lack of off idle torque causes the vehicle to die when taking of in thick sand in 4H, but its much better to bog the engine than to bog the car. This is fixed with a little bit if reverse and skilled right foot. The vehicle is light so it tends to float on the soft sand once you are up and going. The lightness also helps this yd25 motor to give me almost 10L/100km around town. The mechanical feel of everything is great. The stearing rack lets you feel all the input from the gravel roads and sand tracks necessary to make good decisions. The gear lever throw is long, yet very very easy, and I do like that...well, mechanical clunck. So yes its payload is low, but I dont tow horseboxes. The radio is a double din cd player unit, but after 70 000km its maybe been on for about an hour. Windows (electric) open and fresh air is way better anyway. The loadbay is a bit small for my Mountain bike, but it fits with a squeeze. The loadbay sides are low enough though that my wife can actually reach into our camping fridge. I am selling the Nissan for something a little bit safer for the growing family. But I am going to miss this vehicle, nothing gives a person respect for something than when you have been treated well. This was a humble and honest vehicle in modern times when there is so much indulgence and entitlement running around
2015 Nissan Navara ST (4x4) review
Owner Review | 10 Feb 2017
This is an absolutely awesome truck ! The ride quality for a ute is amazing, gotta love coil spring suspension ! It looks the part too. Mine is black, not everyone's choice I guess, but the body shape is accentuated by the dark colour and looks kind of "gansta style" with the dark tinted windows. I've heard that some people think the steering is a bit unresponsive and heavy, whereas I get a good feedback through the wheel and obviously eat enough Vegemite and do plenty at the gym, as I have not found it hard to steer at all. My only minor complaint steering wise is that it suffers a small amount of under steer particularly on the tighter roundabouts. 1500 km has been my longest one way trip in it so far, and it is like jumping out of your reclining lounge chair after watching a "Game of Thrones" marathon, in that you have no reservations in jumping straight back into that chair and doing the same again. The comfort level is amazing ! The instrument panel is a little bit bland in the ST variant, which mine is. The little picture of the ute on the screen is an odd choice......could be a bit more informative perhaps instead of just a space filling picture. I don't know what is different in the ST-X dash, as I could not afford to even look at the top of the line model. But I am very happy with the interior equipment level and the build quality overall. I honestly don't know what the rear seats are like as I've never travelled in them, but all my passengers have been impressed with the comfort, aircon vents, legroom and the quietness of the cab, until I turn the stereo on.....I get a few complaints then about noise ! There's nothing I can say about servicing costs as yet, as I'm not due my first 12 month service for another couple of weeks, and the speedo is only on 9500 km. I love the grunt of the twin turbo engine, and the auto is ultra smooth. Fuel economy is pretty good in my books, but can be hefty if your hammering hard with your right foot. This thing tows like a dream too. You have to keep reminding yourself that you have a trailer on, it's that smooth. Overall, I love it !! Happy trails to all.
2015 Nissan Navara ST-X (4x4) Review
Owner Review | 27 Dec 2016
My Navara NP300 has now traveled 29,000 km., The engine has been getting better and better the more kilometres travelled. I now also only use premium diesel ( no truck diesel, engine rattles) Engine a lot quiet now with a lot more power in mid range. The overall fuel economy is averaging 8.4 (car gauge) but the actual figure is 9.1, still very good for mostly city travel,. The car can easily achieve low 7's when driving on country roads and freeways. I find entering and exiting the cabin easier than some of the other ute brands I tested. My wife insisted that it can't be to high, she didn't like the Toyota or Rangers be cause of their size. The driving position too good with excellent support from the leather seats, so long distance travelling has been pretty comfortable. The ute has been off-road a couple of times and copped well. The body is still tight, with no rattles. I have only had 2 warranty issues so far, one major issue was Nissan had to replaced a very noisey engine clutch fan. Now, thank goodness no engine roar, the other problem was a vibration when the ute got up to a speed of around 105 kph on freeways, this was also promptly fixed by the dealer. The car will be due for another service soon, but no issues to report. With a long list of standard features, a comfortable and quiet cabin, a great auto transmission, I very much enjoy driving my Navara daily.

2015 Nissan Navara ST (4x2) Review
Owner Review | 24 Mar 2016
I have now almost completed 10,000km in my new Nissan Navara ST Dual Cab 4 x 2 and absolutely love the choice I made. I had a budget of $40,000.00 and test drove all makes of 4 door Utes and got the choice down to the new Mitsubishi Triton and Nissan Navara. The Nissan Navara got me over the line in the end because I thought it was finished off better and a little more refined. After 10,000km of driving of which I have done a lot of towing with my Tradesman Trailer, I can only really fault a few small things as follows. 1) When the car is warm and the Fans are going to cool the car the noise inside the cabin is very loud. Nissan really need to work on this to keep the noise down as it is actually very loud. Once the fans switch of it is the quietest of cars and very good. Usually only does it in slower traffic and when the weather is warm. 2) The Central Locking/Alarm remote if in your pocket and you are close to the car can keep locking and unlocking the doors with the movement of your legs. The buttons on the remote are way to sensitive. I keep the keys out of my Pocket now when working around the car as every time I bend or raise my legs I was unlocking and locking the doors. Also one other note and I would like Nissan or anyone else to Email me and let me know what they think. The Petrol Tank Specifications on the Ute say it is an 80lt Fuel Tank. I am getting around 650km to 700km which I am finding good but the most fuel I can get into my tank is 68lt. I have run my tank almost completely dry and the most fuel I could get in was 68lt. There is no way there still was another 12lt in the tank. My fuel gauge went blank when it was showing 70km and I drove around another 60km after that and could only manage 68lt of fuel filling up. I Overall brilliant car to drive, love it the more I drive it, great if you are doing long drives as it is very comfortable to drive and very quiet on open highways, expect when the fans come on. You will be very happy with the choice of car. But could someone please let me know about the fuel tank as there is no way that is an 80lt tank.
